Hello, World!

Open Source. Open Minds. Open Hearts.

Free software' is a matter of liberty, not price. To understand the concept, you should think of 'free' as in 'free speech,' not as in 'free beer'.

  2. The software is free, but companies typically charge for providing support. In case of RedHat and Novell, they have separate free and paid products: Fedora is free and community driven, while RedHat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) is paid, similarly for Novell, openSUSE is free and SuSe Linux Enterprise Server/Desktop (SLES/SLED) is paid. Large corporations and businesses need the peace of mind that the support from RHEL or SLES comes with, while students like us can prefer free software like Fedora/openSUSE. The companies are catering to both eventualities. Apart from this, open source consultancy firms are also there, which provide solutions based solely on open source software.
